The Fitzwilliam Museum has been described as 'one of the greatest art collections of the nation and a monument of the first importance'. Collections include the Ancient World, Applied Arts (including pottery, porcelain, glass, textiles, furniture, clocks and watches), Paintings, Manuscripts, Books and Coins.

It owes its foundation to Richard, VII Viscount Fitzwilliam of Merrion who, in 1816, bequeathed to the University of Cambridge his works of art and library, together with funds to house them.

Open 10am-5pm Tuesday to Saturday, 12noon-5pm Sunday, Closed Monday except most Bank Holidays (please check the website for any late changes). Free admission.

Located to the south of the city centre at the junction of Trumpington Street and Fitzwilliam Street.

National Rail Cambridge railway station: 20 minutes walk.
