The Cathedral and Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary is popularly known, as it has been for centuries, as Southwell Minster. Although Christian worship has taken place on this site for over 1000 years, the present Romanesque building dates from 900 years ago.

Southwell Minster became the Cathedral Church of the Diocese in 1884. Southwell Minster is a hidden gem in the heart of Nottinghamshire; it has an amazing and intriguing history. Visitors are welcome every day from 8am-7pm and to join in any Services that are taking place. Entry to Southwell Minster is free but they rely on the generosity of visitors’ donations which are much appreciated.

Stewards (wearing blue gowns and badges) are on duty throughout the day to greet visitors, to provide information and answer questions. There is also an Information Desk, as well as Vergers who are able to deal with any queries.
