Birmingham and the West Midlands

The city of a thousand trades, Birmingham has grown from a minor market town to become the manufacturing heart of Britain. It is now shaking off its 1960s concrete shell to become one of the UK's most modern cities.
New developments such as the Bullring, Grand Central, Eastside and Paradise Place are reversing the planning mistakes of the past and creating a new shopping and leisure destination. Over 100 miles of canals were built during the industrial revolution to transport the city's many goods. Now these canals are leisure attractions in themselves, creating pathways for nature through the city's streets.
