St David's Centre is Cardiff's biggest and busiest shopping centre, which has recently doubled in size. Fully under-cover, St David's is a modern shopping mall with mainly national chain shops. The newer section to the south spans two floors and is a very bright, airy shopping space.
Major stores include the Disney Store, Apple Store and Hamleys Toy Shop.
The original shopping centre opened in the 1980s covering an area from Queen Street to Hill's Street and across to Working Street. Absorbing Frederick Street shops and a lot of residential housing, it was the first stage of the major redevelopment of Cardiff city centre by the council. The impressive newer section of St David's Centre, from Hill's Street to Tredegar Street, is a huge improvement on the tired old buildings from the 1970s and the library building from the original development. It brought many new designer brands to the city, as well as the popular dining area, Eastside.
