Cambridge Shops and Markets

Cambridge is a market city, and stalls have been trading at the historic market square in the city centre since the middle ages. From Monday to Saturday, stalls at the general market sell a wide range of goods including books, music, films, clothes, jewellery, fresh food, second-hand bikes, plants, mobile phones and more.

Step into the stylish centre to find an unrivalled selection of over 60 premium and high street retailers under one sky-lit roof including John Lewis. There is also a selection of cafes and restaurants in the centre.

Sidney Street and St Andrew's Street are Cambridge's main shopping streets and stretch south from Bridge Street to Regent Street. This main route through the city centre continues on to Hills Road and Cambridge railway station in the south. Home to the city's major stores, Sidney Street is fully pedestrianised.

Heffers has been selling books in Cambridge since 1876 and is part of the fabric of the historic city centre. Now owned by Oxford's Blackwell’s Bookshops, they still pride themselves on being a proper bookshop, packed with a vast range of titles from all kinds of subjects to explore.

The Lion Yard is a modern shopping mall dating from the 1970s when the area was redeveloped. Rather ugly from the outside, it has mainly national chain shops inside. It is right in the centre of the city, next to St Andrew's Church and Market Square.

Trinity Street and Rose Crescent are just north of Market Square and feature both independent and national chain shops. Green Street off Trinity Street is also a popular destination. Trinity Street continues to St John's Street in the north and King's Parade in the south.

Market Street, Petty Cury and Market Hill lead off from Market Square and feature both independent and national chain shops.

A friendly open-air market in All Saints Garden in the heart of historic Cambridge. The All Saints Art and Craft Market has been part of the Cambridge scene for over fourty years, providing the opportunity for local artists and crafts people to exhibit in this delightful open-air setting just opposite Trinity College.

The Grafton is a commercial shopping centre with mainly national chain shops. It is situated to the east of the city centre, off East Road. It also has a multi-screen Vue cinema.

Fitzroy and Burleigh Streets are away from the tourist centre and is where most locals do their day to day shopping. It is the cheaper side of Cambridge and the shops reflect this.
