The mainline railway station for Birmingham in the heart of the city centre. Direct services operate from here to nearly every part of the country including London Euston, Plymouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Scotland. Also many local train services in the area stop here.

There are currently twelve platforms at this station numbered 1 to 12. Most platforms are split into 'A' and 'B' with trains to different parts of the country leaving at the same time - make sure you are on the right section of the platform for your train. Trains run from any of the platforms and a change of platforms at short notice is very frequent.

Entrances to the station are on Stephenson Street, Station Street, Queens Drive and from the Grand Central shopping centre. You can buy tickets for any UK destination from this station. When using the National Rail website, the quick code for Birmingham New Street railway station is BHM.

New Street is the busiest station outside London and the busiest interchange station in the UK. It is has undergone a huge redevelopment to the transform the dark, unwelcoming and overcrowded concrete station, rebuilt in the 1960s when the original ornate station was demolished.

Getting There:

Bus stops and taxi rank are located outside the front of Birmingham New Street railway station. It is only a few minutes walk from most parts of the city centre.

For wheelchair users, there are lifts to all platforms at the station but help will be needed to board trains as ramps are required. Go to the Customer Services desk for assistance.
