Snow Hill was originally the main Birmingham station for the Great Western Railway. The station was opened in 1852 but rebuilt on a much larger scale between 1906-1912. From the 1960s the station went through many changes including the withdrawal of all passenger services by the 1970s. Most of the ornate structure of the station was demolished including the impressive front on Colmore Row. In the 1980s the current concrete station was built with a large multi-storey car park built over most of the platforms. Services were reintroduced over time, with the line to Kidderminster re-opening in 1995.
