Avanti West Coast has now taken over from Virgin Trains and operates inter-city services from London Euston to Birmingham, Crewe, Manchester, Liverpool, Chester, Carlisle, Glasgow and Edinburgh, plus all major towns and cities en-route.
The company operate Pendolino and Super Voyager rail-cars. Although modern and fast, they're quite noisy and we felt the luggage facilities left a lot to be desired for a long distance service, especially the tiny overhead luggage racks. Local rail-cars from the 1980s provide better luggage space for passengers than Virgin trains. Seats feel cramp and are badly laid out with many having no window views. It's like being in a London Underground tube train!
