Cardiff Waterways

Cardiff foolishly filled in its canal system many years ago but since the building of the Cardiff Bay Barrage, boats have been able to travel up the River Taff to provide a regular service from the Castle to the Bay.

Currently there are two operators, each provide an hourly service meaning services run on the hour and half hour during the day. The pick up point in the city centre is Bute Park, just inside the gates on Castle Street. For the Bay, the pick up point is Mermaid Quay.

The Aquabus travels from Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay to Bute Park in the city centre. The pick up point in Bute Park is just inside the gates on Castle Street. Boats run hourly from 11am until 5pm from Bute Park and 10.30am until 4.30pm from Mermaid Quay. There are only 24 seats and journeys can continue to Penarth.

Cardiff Boat waterbus offers a regular service between Cardiff Bay and Cardiff city centre. The Princess Katharine has a capacity for 90 passengers and is operated by highly qualified skippers. Boats run hourly from 10.30am until 4.30pm from Bute Park and 10am until 4pm from Mermaid Quay.
