Nottingham and Beeston Canal

Nottingham is on the edge of the extensive Birmingham canal network with further links via the River Soar to Leicester and then onwards to London by the Grand Union Canal.

The coalfields of Nottinghamshire brought great wealth to the region and canals were seen as the best way to transport the coal. The surviving canal through the city centre was once part of a much longer route to Langley Mill in the north.
