Brimming with history, the Theatre Royal is not only a city centre landmark but also one of the most beautiful Victorian theatres in Britain. The Theatre Royal opened in 1865 with its elegant portico of six Corinthian columns of Ancaster stone designed by Charles J Phipps.
The Theatre Royal has a 1,186 seat auditorium on four levels, plus foyer bars, café, restaurant and outdoor terraces. Providing Nottingham with top-quality entertainment for over 140 years, the exciting and diverse programme continues to offer the very best touring drama, opera, ballet and contemporary dance alongside blockbuster West End musicals, comedy and pantomimes.
The Theatre Royal underwent a £5million refurbishment of the auditorium, stage and backstage areas in 1978 and is now owned by the city council.
